Electricity plans for residential customers on a regulated tariff in a distribution region for which the Australian Energy Regulator sets a Comparison Price must be compared to a Comparison Price set each year by the Australian Energy Regulator for that type of regulated tariff to make it easier to compare energy plans across the market in that distribution region. The Comparison Price is calculated based on an the annual usage of a broadly representative residential customer in this region and does not include conditional discounts, solar feed-in credits, concessions / rebates or other fees. Your actual energy bill may be significantly different and will depend on your actual electricity usage, when you use electricity and if you have solar.

  • If you have an interval meter (sometimes called a smart meter, which records electricity use at different times of the day), you may choose a Solar Sharer Offer (SSO).
  • An SSO is a time of use electricity offer, meaning prices vary depending on what time of day electricity is used. On the SSO, electricity rates may be lower during the day, when more renewable energy is available, and higher during peak periods, such as mornings and evenings. A residential customer on the SSO will not pay any variable charge for electricity used that does not exceed the reasonable use cap, being 24 kilowatt hours, during the free usage period (but may still have to pay other charges, such as supply charges).
  • The SSO is best suited to residential customers who can shift their electricity usage to the free usage period. Any failure to shift your electricity usage to the free usage period could result in higher electricity costs. You may also incur a variable charge for any electricity supplied during the free usage period that exceeds the reasonable use cap. Moving to an SSO is optional and available only to customers who choose to opt in.
  • Please contact us if you would like more information on this.
  • ** Australian Energy Regulator has set the free usage periods at 11am–2pm for New South Wales and South East Queensland and 12pm–3pm for South Australia. The free usage periods are fixed in local time year-round and do not change for daylight savings.
Please Note: The tariff you are on is determined by the distribution company that runs the energy network in your area as well as the type of electricity meter that you have. Your tariff type will be set out on your electricity bill.
