Meter Installation Timeframes

Unless we have arranged a specific date with you, smart meter installations are typically completed within the following timeframes for residential and small business customers:

These timeframes do not apply for meter upgrades that are a part of the National Smart Meter Rollout.

NSW, SA, QLD
Scenario Expected Timeframes
Standard meter exchanges (no additional works required). Within 20 business days of receiving your meter upgrade request. To request a meter exchange, please complete this online form.
Meter exchanges with a supply alteration (additional works required alongside meter upgrade). Within 20 business days of receiving your meter upgrade request. To request a meter exchange with a supply alteration, please complete both our meter exchange form and our supply alteration form.
Meter installation for a new connection. Within 11 business days of receiving confirmation that the new supply point is ready for meter installation. To initiate a new connection, please complete this online form.

New connections typically take 6–8 weeks from initiation to meter installation.


VIC
Scenario Expected Timeframes
Standard meter exchanges (no additional works required). Arranged directly between the customer and the distributor.
Meter exchanges with a supply alteration (additional works required alongside meter upgrade). Within 20 business days of receiving your meter upgrade request. To request a meter exchange with a supply alteration, please complete both our meter exchange form and our supply alteration form.
Meter installation for a new connection. Within 11 business days of receiving confirmation that the new supply point is ready for meter installation. To initiate a new connection, please complete this online form.

New connections typically take 6–8 weeks from initiation to meter installation.

Please note that timeframes may be extended if additional works are required or a shared fusing arrangement exists where multiple properties would experience power interruption.
