National Energy Bill Relief package 2023

The Australian government is partnering with state and territory governments to provide up to $3 billion in electricity bill relief for eligible households and small businesses.

Many of the details are still being finalised by the various government departments and this information is prepared as an overview on what this may mean for you and your electricity bills. Up-to-date details are included on various government websites that we have referenced below.

Eligible residential customers

The Qld government is making payments available to all eligible households.

Customers already receiving an existing concession or rebate in Vic, NSW, Qld and SA will receive extra financial support. Financial support will also be available to customers who don’t currently receive a concession or rebate but:

  • have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • receive Family Tax Benefit A and B
  • receive a carer allowance

If you currently receive a concession or rebate, there’s nothing you need to do

In this case, the Energy Bill Relief payment will be automatically applied to your electricity account as per the details administered by your state.

If you have a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, receive Family Tax Benefit A and B or receive a carer allowance, there’s nothing you need to do

In this case, you’ll be contacted by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs in the coming months with more details.

How payments will be made

We’re currently awaiting confirmation from the state governments on exactly how and when  additional financial support will be applied, but we know they’ll be paid to eligible customers directly onto electricity accounts.

Not sure if you are eligible for a concession or rebate or have not provided us details to receive them?
