Our sustainability principles
Our sustainability principles
Our sustainability principles include:
– strongly supporting more grid connected renewable energy and expansion of the Renewable Energy Target;
– supporting GreenPower program through our generation portfolio and by encouraging our customers to choose GreenPower accredited products;
– not having any activities or interests in coal seam gas, coal generation or coal mining;
– not supporting electricity sourced from wood waste derived from native timber or from crops on land cleared of native forests;
– supporting a healthy and consistent Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and continue to facilitate and encourage individuals and small businesses to install solar; and
– encouraging efficient use of energy and support state based Energy Savings Schemes.
We strongly support more grid connected renewable energy and expansion of the Renewable Energy Target.
We believe that electricity from renewable generation will play a major role in helping combat climate change. Pure power from our natural renewable resources is both clean and low cost and enables the timely transition and well overdue retirement of polluting and aging coal-fired generation assets.
Instead of supporting coal generation, we support innovative renewable technologies including solar energy, bio-energy, wind energy and wave energy – find out more here.
In Australia, with our abundance of pure, natural resources, we continue to be disappointed at the slow deployment of renewable generation. We support the expansion of the Renewable Energy Target which will help accelerate the transition of the energy mix to cleaner energy sources whilst keeping electricity prices down. We believe that an expansion to at least 30% by 2030 is very achievable and are excited by recent prospects of even further expansion to 50% by 2030.
We support the GreenPower program through our generation portfolio and by encouraging our customers to choose GreenPower accredited products.
100% of our owned and contracted generation portfolio is accredited under the Renewable Energy Target Scheme with 92.4% also GreenPower accredited.
We encourage our customers to think about doing even more to support renewables by taking up a GreenPower accredited product such as our Diamond Pure Plus – GreenPower, which is an accredited product under the National GreenPower Program. Currently 2.0%^ of our customers have taken up GreenPower accredited products – you can find out more about the National GreenPower Program and Diamond Pure Plus – GreenPower here.
We have not and will not invest or undertake activities in coal seam gas, coal generation or coal mining.
We understand the concerns of landowners and communities throughout Australia in relation to exploration and ongoing operation of coal seam gas wells.
We believe that the combination of low cost renewable energy, solar generation at home and smart energy tips to reduce energy consumption is a viable way of reducing reliance on gas sourced from such means.
We are pleased to have assisted in the promotion of the Frackman movie as a means of further spreading this message and supporting local communities in regards to this complex issue.
We do not support electricity sourced from wood waste derived from native timber or from crops on land cleared of native forests.
Our position on energy sourced from native timber is clear – “Diamond Energy has not, does not and will not, own, purchase or sell Large Scale Renewable Generation certificates sourced from wood waste derived from native timber or electricity from crops grown on land cleared of native forest expressly to generate power.”
We support a healthy and consistent Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and continue to facilitate and encourage individuals and small businesses to install solar.
We continue to encourage and assist thousands of customers make the switch to solar – we are the solar friendly electricity retailer.
Our expert solar team help customers to understand their options (see things you should know about going solar) and assist in identifying reputable, knowledgeable and experienced solar installers that provide good quality equipment through our Pure Power solar installers program. Once the decision on installer and equipment is made, we work closely with installers to ensure customers have their system grid connected and operational with minimum delays.
We provide competitive electricity offers for solar customers with one of the highest feed in rates (see our Feed in credit and Feed in credit tips and traps with electricity retailers).
We also provide a range of special, high feed in credit offers for new solar customers, ranging up to 25cents/kWh* for the electricity they export to the grid in addition to any distributor funded feed in tariffs.
Our end to end solar service and products ensure customers have a hassle transition to solar and get the most out of their solar investment – see our solar customers’ testimonials.
BELECTRIC Australia Solar Farm, Mildura, Victoria – Diamond Energy continues to purchase all the electricity and renewable energy certificates.
We encourage efficient use of energy and support state based Energy Savings Scheme.
In addition to encouraging the switch to solar, we also help our customers use energy efficiently. We have a range of smart energy tips providing advice on energy efficiency in summer and winter, minimising energy wastage throughout the house, optimising use of pool pumps (where applicable); information on time of use rates and information on energy efficient lighting options.
For those that have gone solar, we go a step further with additional solar focused smart energy tips to help save them even more.
We are also members of energy savings scheme in each state that we operate in.
Our environmental policy is incorporate into our Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
